English: Franc (Franjo) Thaler (1865-1936), Slovenian wine producer, true patriot and leader , First major of Šentilj in Slovenia on the border to Austria for the period of 15 years. Lived on the estate KARLOVO in Kresnica, handed down to him by his uncle Anton Thaler(1924-1895).
The Thaler family originated from Železniki(northwest part of the country). The last living owner of the Thaler estate in Kresnica was Otilija Thaler(1924-2013), wife of Rafael Thaler(1911-1995) nephew of Franjo Thaler who inherited the estate after his uncle. Franjo Thaler was co-founder of the Slovenian reading society in Šentilj as well as financial trust to help local farmers and land owners in the border area. His greatest work was is the Slovenian home(Slovenski dom) still standing today and was opened in 1910. 1.08.1929 awarded The Order of St. Sava the Order of merit for his pre war activities.  The estate in Kresnica number 4 was well known for its vinyards, beautiful untouched historical scenery and hospitality of the Thaler family and others who loved to live there. They gave an example to other wineries in the region. The wine was also well known and charished through decades of visitors in the book of the house. The old house that was once a summer getaway for the Austrian aristocracy, today fare from its glory in age that once was. The Thaler family grave is in main cematary located in Šentilj. |
