Français : dimension toute la planche: 27x17 cm Françoise-Louise de Warens, également connue sous les noms de Madame de Warens ou Louise Éléonore de la Tour du Pil (née le 31 mars 1699 à Vevey et décédée le 29 juillet 1762 à Chambéry), est la tutrice et maîtresse de Jean-Jacques Rousseau (qui l'appelait Maman). En 1713, elle épouse M. de Loys et devient baronne de Warens (ou orthographié Vuarrens), du nom d'une propriété de son mari près de Vevey. Elle fait annuler son mariage la même année. Protestante émigrée de Suisse installée à Annecy puis aux Charmettes sur les hauteurs de Chambéry, Madame de Warens reste une personne très controversée : en 1726, elle renie sa religion, s'enfuit avec la caisse d'une manufacture de bas de soie et de laine qu'elle a fondée et qui périclite, devient catholique, abjure entre les mains de l'évêque d'Annecy, perçoit dès lors une pension de l'Église pour diffuser la religion dans la région frontière de Genève (alors capitale du protestantisme) et se fait pensionner par le roi de Sardaigne Victor-Amédée II. Femme très libérale pour son époque, elle remplit alors probablement également un rôle politique d’agent de liaison avec le chef de la maison de Savoie. |
