DescriptionFrançois Caret.jpg	Français : François d'Assise Caret (14 juillet 1802–1844). Pionnier du catholicisme en Polynésie, ce missionnaire de la Congrégation des Sacrés Cœurs évangélisa les Gambier, avec le père Laval de 1834 -1836 . L’hostilité déclarée de Pritchard l’empêcha de s’installer à Tahiti en 1836 et 1841. Il finit, grâce à du Bouzet, à obtenir en 1842 un terrain pour la mission catholique. Mais la guerre franco tahitienne retarda son installation et il mourût aux Gambier où il était retourné.
