Description |
English: My grandfather Richard Mahon (Sgt 1474) was S. Irish Horse. Captured by Germans, held in prisoner-of-war camp in Cassel. I was thought that he was in cavalry charge when his horse was shot.
Material includes frame with bullets in brass, made by guards at the POW camp dated 1914-191. Frame contains photos of R. Mahon & George Mahon (N. Irish Horse. Served in WW2). G. Mahon was a captain (US bronze star WW2). Mahon was a member of British Legion, and was attacked after the war whilst wearing poppy and showing his medals. R. Mahon was Irish protestant & his son married English catholic in WRNS WW2. Frame also has buttons: Bavarian, Prussian, British. War pension book up to 1969 & POW cards from the camp. |
