[edit]DescriptionFramed in the ruins of Villers Carbonne (4687912251).jpg |
English: Ruins in Villers Carbonnel, Ancre region, France, during World War I. An Allied soldier looking out through the empty window frame of a shattered house. The building had been constructed of clay daub on a framework of lathe set on a low brick foundation. This traditional type of structure was easily destroyed. This photograph is probably one of a series emphasising the Allied advance during the spring of 1917. It would have been important for Field Marshal Haig that the official photographers recorded the destruction caused by the retreating German army. |
