Title
Fragment of a copper alloy Roman Dolphin style brooch. Images show remnants of silvering or enamelling on the corroded surface.
Description
English: Incomplete Roman copper alloy dolphin style brooch. The pin and hinge of the brooch are missing and so is the catchplate, which would have held the pin in place. The lower part of the bow has broken off. The brooch is quite worn and corroded, with the spring and axis fused together and worn to smooth, rounded ends. . The bow is commar shaped in section and tapers towards the missing foot. Although the surface is very worn and corroded, there is evidence of possible silvering or enamelling in places, as well as moulded decoration in the form of a line of very small raised dots either side of the head of the bow, above the side wings.
