Description

Acquired in Rome (Italy) in 1844 Marble, 1st century AD

A sexually arounsed satyr jumps up from his rocky seat and tries to pull the cloak off a nymph's lover body. She resists but even so, upper body and buttocks are already uncovered. Rocky seat, tree and pillar with tambourine, ivy wreath and thyrsus staff combine to form Dionysian atmosphere.
