Fragment of a Roman bone pin
Description
English: Fragment of a Roman bone needle, 1st-4th century in date. This fragment represents the head of a pointed head needle which is pierced with an oval eye that is 4.36mm long. The shaft has a circular section. The break on the shaft is diagonal. The colour of the object is a creamy beige, the surface is smooth and glossy. It is 31.52mm long, 3.64mm thick at the widest point and weighs 0.44g.An example of a pointed head needle was excavated at Colchester (Crummy 1983, 65 no. 1959 fig.70).
