Title |
Fragment of Roman Samian ware |
||
Description |
English: Fragment of Roman samian ware. This fragment is now trapezoidal in plan and is 71.66mm long, 36.3mm wide, 9.82mm thick and weighs 35.15g. It has been moulded with a raised design, that is now very worn and abraded. The slip coating the fragment is dark orangey red. It survives well on the inner side of the fragment, but is very patchy on the outer side. This fragment is probably part of a vessel imported to Britain from Central Gaul and is probably no earlier than 2nd century in date. |
