Description |
English: Fragment of a tapestry-woven square. Monochrome type, dark purple-brown wool and undyed linen. In a medallion in the center, a figure stands astride a spotted feline, holding its tail. A serpentine border from which spring leaves of different shapes surrounds the figure. The four corner spandrels contain Nereids or Victories with cloaks spread out behind them. The upper two are affronted, the lower two addorsed. At the four sides of the figure appear animals: a hare at each side and a lion at the top and bottom. |
