Title
English: Fragment, 1846
Description
English: Fragment of Irish poplin. Narrow horizontal stripes of black and green. Watered. The texture of this fabric is the result of a closely set fine silk warp and a thick stiff wool weft to produce ribs; the fine color bands by an alternation of green and purple warps; and the pattern (moire) by the effect of water as the fabric was roller under pressure between two rollers on rotating slightly more than the other.
