Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Fox Covert Drain, Etherdwick, East Riding of Yorkshire, England.
Crumbling farm bridge over Fox Covert Drain, south of Etherdwick Grange. The public footpath which once ran from Etherdwick to Flinton now ends just southwest of here on the parish boundary between Aldbrough and Humbleton. The pond to the north on the O/S 1:25000 scale map has been filled in, as has the spur of the drain to the south.

The name Etherdwick is thought to be an Anglo-Scandinavian hybrid meaning 'Ethelred's dairy farm'. The Etherdwick estate was once owned by the abolitionist William Wilberforce who died in 1833. His son (also called William) sold the 165 acre estate to Robert Raikes in 1836, three years after his father's death.
