[edit]DescriptionFour lives lost at sea - geograph.org.uk - 1145581.jpg |
English: Four lives lost at sea Close scrutiny of this single family gravestone reveals the perils of life on the ocean wave in this seafaring community.
The father, John Davies, drowned off Milford Haven in 1877: he was 53. Of his 6 children, son Thomas died at North Tonawanda, New York [a port on the Erie Canal] in 1899 at the age of 37; son David lost his life at sea through enemy action in 1917, aged 60; and son John (57) died in an accident on board the SS Lundy Light [a steamship] in 1923 and was buried at Santa Fe, Argentina. The mother, Mary died in 1906, and there seem to have been 3 other children who survived. |
