snt afraid, not he ! and thehawk never interferes with him — Ive watched outfor some such thing, but he dont. Do you ever see the fish-hawk catch a fish ?asked Grace. Mony a toime. He flies around and aroundabove the water, moving slower and slower, till, heonly seems to keep himself up by just flappinhis wings. Thin all to once he shoots down intothe wather, and comes up with a big fish in hisclaws, shaking the wather from his feathers, andscreaming as hard as he kin. What does he scream for ? asked May. Bekase he wants his wife and children to knowhes coming with breakfast, I spose. But, some-times, the bald-headed eagle hears him, and comes tobreakfast, too. Away he puts after the hawk, anthe hawk fights, but he generally gets tired out, andhas to drop the fish, and then the eagle pouncesdown and grabs the fish before it reaches the water. What does the poor hawk do then ? asked Rose. O, he has to catch another one. Hasnt the eagle dot anj/ fevvers on top of hishead ? asked Rose.
Text Appearing After Image:
QUEEK NeIGHBOES. KENNY S CHICKENS. Yis, to be sure; but they call him bald-headedbecause the feathers on top of his head arewhite. I should fink they ought to call him drey-headed,said Rose, seriously. How does the fish-hawk look ? asked Frank. Well, hes about two fate long, and when hiswings are spread I think they would measure nearlyfive fate from tip to tip. The upper parts of hisbody is a mixed reddish-brown, while the lowerparts are white. Then he has a rough, shaggy footwith long hooked nails. It is sometimes called the Osprey^ said Grace, and belongs to the family Falconidcer Ill write that down, said Pat. An now, Illshow ye me owls. I found a nest, and I brought theold owl and four young ones home with me, andmither wouldnt let me kape them because sheheard them hooting in the night, and said theywould be getting out and ating the chickens up, soI killed and stuffed them.* Who taught you to stuff birds ? asked Grace. Sure, mum, and I went to a taxidermists. Helet me help him
