Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The opening is the Four Corners Mine, an old uranium mine in the Dakota Hogback's Turkey Creek Watergap, southeast of the town of Morrison, Colorado. The host rocks are sandstones of the J Sandstone of the South Platte Formation (Dakota Group, Lower Cretaceous). The uranium in the mine ultimately came from nearby pegmatitic granites. The Four Corners Mine was active in the 1950s. It targeted uranium roll front mineralization, an excellent example of which is exposed in a roadcut on the other side of the watergap (behind the viewer here). In additional to uranium (U), the mine also produced vanadium (V) and molybdenum (Mo). Locality: northern side of Turkey Creek Road through Turkey Creek Watergap, southeast of the town of Morrison, Jefferson County, north-central Colorado, USA (39° 38' 02.98" North latitude, 105° 10' 20.06" West longitude)
