Summary
[edit]DescriptionFoundations of Tin City, Boulby Ironstone Mine - geograph.org.uk - 96202.jpg |
English: Foundations of Tin City, Boulby Ironstone Mine. The Boulby Ironstone Mine was established in 1903 on what was effectively a green field site. Accommodation therefore had to be provided for the miners. This was done using the latest building technique of corrugated steel sheeting (similar to the Mine Office 96192). Known locally as Tin City the accommodation comprised forty cottages and a school. One cottage became a shop and another a chapel. The last residents were rehoused in the new Coronation Road in Loftus in 1937.
