Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Foundations, Park Plain Wood. Remains of the foundations to the Nissen huts occupied by the 11th Armoured Division who occupied the Duncombe Park Estate during World War II. Their more obvious legacy is the concrete estate roads which are found throughout the estate. There are other more subtle reminders of the army's presence. The bridge at Rievaulx had a ford upstream of it because the bridge was too narrow for the tanks to pass. The way down to the ford on the west bank is still discernible although now incorporated into a private garden 515433.
