Description I'm not totally sure of this identification, but if I've understood it correctly, F.major (syn F.monticola) flowers later, with the young foliage, while the other common species, F.gardenii (syns F.alnifolia and carolina) flowers earlier on bare branches. F.major is also supposed to be bigger and more vigorous but this one is perhaps a bit stunted.
