several fan shaped shell fossils

Fossils are difficult to see in Wind Cave because other formations usually cover them up. Brachiopods are shellfish that were very common when the Pahasapa Limestone was formed and are the most common fossil seen in the cave. Most species of brachiopods are extinct. On average, brachiopods in Wind Cave are one to two inches wide.
