Ce plateau escarpé de tous côtés, offrant à son sommet une large surface horizontale sur laquelle la petite armée que César conduisait avec lui pouvait tenir fort à l'aise, se prêtait merveilleusement au genre de défense qu'il avait adopté; défense dont on reconnaît d'ailleurs la trace sur les lieux mêmes....
