Français : Description : La première enceinte fortifiée de Québec est érigée en 1690, du côté des Plaines d'Abraham. En 1716, Gaspard Chaussegros de Léry, le nouvel ingénieur du roi, propose de remplacer les redoutes en pierre reliées par une palissade de bois par une fortification continue en pierre. Le chantier est mis en place en 1720, mais suspendu peu de temps après en raison d'une crise économique en France. À la suite de la prise de la ville-forteresse de Louisbourg, vingt-cinq ans plus tard, les travaux de fortifications reprennent à Québec. À la suite du départ de la garnison britannique en 1871, les citoyens de la ville veulent faire détruite les fortifications qui nuisent au développement de la ville intra-muros. Lord Dufferin s'oppose au projet et propose plutôt de les réaménager voyant le fort potentiel patrimonial des fortifications. Ainsi, de nombreux réaménagements ont été portés aux fortifications.
