Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The remains of the Fort Point Hotel can be seen at Fort Point State Park near Stockton Springs, Maine. The Fort Point Hotel was a luxury hotel built in 1872. It could accommodate about 200 guests and featured a riding stable, bowling alley, two dance pavilions, and such then-luxuries as running water and gas lighting. Most of its clientele were the wealthy of such cities as Boston and New York City. Most visitors arrived by steamboat. Unfortunately the hotel was not commercially successful in the long run. It went through four owners and name changes before burning down in 1898. Information taken from a historical marker at the park.
