Bahasa Indonesia: Fort Marlborough atau warga lokal menyebutnya Benteng Malabro merupakan salah satu benteng terbesar di asia yang terletak tepat dipersimpangan jalan pusat kota tua Bengkulu yaitu Kampung Cina. Dibangun oleh East Indian Company (EIC), sebuah perusahaan dagang Inggris pada tahun 1714-1719 pada era pemeritahan Gubernur Jendral Joseph Collet.
Benteng ini terletak diatas bukit karang dipinggiran Pantai Malabro ini berbentuk kura-kura yang sangat simetris jika dilihat dari ketinggian dengan kepala kura-kura menghadap kearah kampung cina. Pada bagian depan setelah pintu masuk terdapat tiga makam tua yang merupakan peristirahatan terakhir Residen Thomas Parr, pegawainya Charles Murray, dan satu makam lagi milik Capt Robert Hamilton yang mati dibunuh warga Bengkulu kala itu. Ketika Inggris dan Belanda berseteru mengenai wilayah kekuasaan, pada tahun 1824 terjadilah perjanjian Traktat London salah satu isinya adalah Inggris meyerahkan kantor dagangnya (Fort Marlborough) kepada Belanda yang ditukarkan dengan Tumasik yang sekarang dikenal dengan Singapura. |
