Summary
[edit]DescriptionFort Furggels - Bunker Pilz (49967804147).jpg | The bunker „Pilz“ is centrally located on a small hill above Fort Furggels on St. Margrethenberg. But it is not at the highest point. The bunker is still in camouflage of a barn and not discernible as such from a distance. The name „Pilz“ comes from its shape which looks like a mushroom underneath. However, I have not yet found a photo that shows it without the camouflage. Until 1986 it was a bunker with five MG loopholes. Accessible from below by ladders and with an emergency exit on top. Then it was converted into a technical part of the fortress. The emergency exit was closed and openings for a new exhaust air recooling were built in. In addition, a new exhaust from the powerhouse with the diesel generators was installed. The two other exhaust pipes were totally clogged with soot and had to be shut down. The ascent from below leads above the elevator motor in a vertical shaft up to about 15 m below the surface. Then it goes about 40 m horizontally to this bunker and up a further ladder.
