English: (1 in a multiple picture set) I put this shot in to honor the brave men who fought the wilds to open up the first route across the West to the Pacific Ocean. If you have read any history of the American West, especially as concerns the trappers and explorers, you will see the names of some of these men who returned to the wilds after Lewis and Clark released them from their enlistment. One of the most well known is John Colter, the man who first discovered the thermal features of Yellowston National Park. When he told others of what he had seen, they called it 'Colter's Hell.' |
