Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Former chapel and cinema, Garden Field, Wyke. This was built in 1885 as the Zion Congregational Chapel. In 1926 it was converted into a silent picture hall with 600 seats by John Lambert of Leeds. It became known as Wyke Hippodrome, but closed down in 1931. The building was then used as a billiard hall for several years before re-opening in 1937 with a sound system. A wide screen was fitted around 1954, by which time it was called the Wyke Star. It closed abruptly on 26 Feb 1959 due to a fire. The building was then adapted for commercial purposes with several occupancies over the years.
