| Description |
English: Former Cattle Market site, Omagh. As was the tradition with a lot of market towns, the cattle market was centrally located near the town centre, which initially contributed to the development of the town, but in latter years it proved to be a nuisance with traffic entering and leaving the confined area. I can remember a collection of sheds here constructed in corrugated iron and the various smells associated with livestock. The market was re-located out of town to the Drumquin Road and Dunnes Stores was developed. Prior to the cattle mart, this was the location of the railway goods-yard and the flax stores. One fact that the locals know is that if you park to the left, you have to buy a ticket from the machine, but you go to the right in that part of the park allocated to Dunne's it is free to stay, provided that is if you do not intend to remain there for more than a couple of hours. |
