English: Built in 1905 (as shown on the date plaque in the gable) and opened as the town library in April 1906. The foundation stone, of dark red marble, reads "Erected through the munificence of Andrew Carnegie. This stone was laid by David Davies Esq JP of Plas Dinam, Mont(gomeryshire), Friday 28th July 1905. Councillor William Thomas, Mayor. Councillor T J Samuel, Chairman of Library Committee. Walter G Payton, Architect." The town library moved from here in 2011 to its current site in the old Town Hall in Queen's Road. |
