| Description |
English: Forgotten? East of Old Parks, Ashby de la Zouch, this old tunnel lies in the undergrowth. Built for the Ashby Canal, which never reached its namesake town, it was subsequently used by the railway. Now blocked up at the other end, it is no longer possible to walk through although some distance can still be walked, equipped with a strong flashlight and an even stronger nerve. Once inside, its inner reveals perfect brickwork, probably in as good condition as when it was constructed. What a shame this remarkable piece of engineering is mostly forgotten and indeed, completely unknown by most. |
