Description

So there was a fight at Forest Hill station this evening. I guess I'm pretty lucky - I've been in south London for nearly 5 years and it's the first I've seen.

Two little big men were trying to push past a load of people on the bridge over the station. They were carrying bikes and using the bikes to push pedestrians out of the way. The one in front pushed into a woman on the platform and she stopped him by holding the handlebars, he started (not really) apologising loudly and very sarcastically. Totally unprovoked and uncalled for. Predictably people started to walk past. Then bike man #1 walked his bike into the same woman again. A man nearby stepped up to tell him he was out of order. There was a lot of "yeah?" and "fuck off" and arm waving. Bike man #2 joined the first. Bike man #1 shoved the man into the fence on the left, bike man #2 joined in with the shoving. At this point the shovee's girlfriend stepped in and worked hard to stop the fight, because none of them were stepping down. A couple of people helped, but the lion's share of the credit goes to her.

The whole thing happened in 2mins max, and the station emptied out at soon as it was over. I took the photo automatically. This is the kind of low-level shitty behaviour that happens all over the place. The sort of thing that makes you (me) angry but it doesn't feel serious enough for a bigger intervention. No one called the police - it didn't seem worth it, it all flared up and went away. So here is my photo - I'm not able to name and shame, but I can at least put their faces on the internet.
