Summary
[edit]DescriptionFordell Castle - geograph.org.uk - 43019.jpg |
English: Fordell Castle. Grand entrance. Crunchy gravel. Very beautiful.
At time of writing, believed to be owned by a Russian businessman. It's a beautiful looking place but access is quite difficult and I don't want to be seen to be invading someone's private space uninvited to take pics of his home. However there are plenty of online aerial views: http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&FORM=LMLTCP&cp=tb81kkgqk4rf&style=b&lvl=2&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&phx=0&phy=0&phscl=1&scene=28424351&encType=1 The access rights in Scotland are very generous but when someone puts up quite big high fences and walls you feel that they should be allowed the privacy they desire. Perhaps one day I will have some time and be bold enough to march up to the front gate to ask permission...until that date...... The castle was rebuilt by a Scottish MP, Sir Nicholas Fairbairn, sometime in the 60's and 70's. It was sold in 1999 after his death in 1995. There isn't much in the way of photography on the internet but more may become available as Historic Scotland and the Royal Commission of Ancient and Historical Monuments open up their archives.....perhaps you might try here for more info: http://www.historic-scotland.gov.uk/ http://www.historic-scotland.gov.uk/gardens_search_summary.htm?s=&r=Kingdom+of+Fife&bool=0&PageID=2123 http://www.rcahms.gov.uk/ http://lmid1.rcahms.gov.uk/pls/portal/newcanmore.newcandig_p_coll_details?p_arcnumlink=1043422 It's up for sale (15th Aug 2007) Particulars: http://www.savills.co.uk/residentialSearch/viewBrochure.aspx?pID=185033 Floorplan: http://www.savills.co.uk/residentialSearch/viewFloorPlan.aspx?pID=185033 |
