[edit]DescriptionFord Corsair GL (16861472086) (cropped).jpg |
The 'modern' Ford Corsair (not to be confused with the 1960s model grom Britain) was an oddity of the Australian market available between 1989 and 1992, either in sedan or hatchback models and in either base GL spec or upscale Ghia trim. These were just rebadged versions of the Nissan Pintara/Bluebird (U12 generation) created under the infamous 'Button plan'. It was intended that these would replace the imported, Mazda derived Telstar as Fords midsize offering in Australia and in fact both Telstar and Corsair were sold side by side over the same time period (the Telstar was only offered in top spec TX5 model). However Nissan closed it's Australian manufacturing plant which was producing the Pintara and Corsair in '92, ending the relatively short model life of the Corsair. |
