The village achieved a degree of fame in the 1970s when the owner of the estate that included the place handed it over to one of a number of 'bogus and bizarre bodies which purport to be religious cults' to quote Hansard http://hansard.millbanksystems.com/commons/1975/oct/22/the-unification-church The full story of how a young heiress came under the influence of the cult and persuaded her dad to hand over millions of pounds worth of real estate to a bunch of Korean con artists is probably out there if you search-engine hard enough. |
