Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Footpath leading around Cordale Point Cordale Point is enclosed by a loop of the River Leven. A footpath can be followed right round the Point, but several notices along the way urge walkers to stay to the footpath, and they warn of "contaminated land".

Like many other sites along the River Leven, Cordale Point was involved in the textiles industry. As early as 1770, it was the site of a printworks. The traditional dyeing processes eventually lost out to modern dyes and methods, and production at the Cordale and Dalquhurn Works ceased in 1942.

The traditional dyeing processes used, among other things, compounds of lead, mercury, and arsenic; this explains the various warning notices located along the footpath.
