English: The photo shows the characteristic blood red color upon adding diluted alkali hydroxide to a few small particles scraped off from the crust of the tinder fungus (tinder polypore, fomes fomentarius). The color is due to deprotonation of fomentariol, the main pigment of the crust (Nöel Arpin, Jean Favre-Bonvin, Wolfgang Steglich, Le fomentariol: Nouvelle benzotropolone isolée de Fomes fomentarius, Phytochemistry 1974, 13, 1949-1952).
Deutsch: Das Bild zeigt die charakteristische blutrote Färbung, die auftritt, wenn wenige Partikel von der Kruste des Zunderschwammes (fomes fomentarius) mit verdünnter Alkalilauge versetzt werden. Die Färbung kommt durch Deprotonierung des Fomentariols, des Hauptfarbstoffes der Kruste, zustande (Nöel Arpin, Jean Favre-Bonvin, Wolfgang Steglich, Le fomentariol: Nouvelle benzotropolone isolée de Fomes fomentarius, Phytochemistry 1974, 13, 1949-1952). |
