| Description |
English: Folded Dalradian metasedimentary rocks
Originally muddy and sandy sediments, these have been metamorphosed and folded during the Caledonian mountain-building period, and are known as the North Sannox Grits Formation (part of the Southern Highland Group). The delicate layering of the strata has been preserved but carries the imprint of deformation in the form of 'box folds' which are typical of finely-laminated rocks. |
