| Description |
English: Foel Cottage Looking at this photo it could easily be mistaken for a view in Provence but it is nothing of the sort, just the normally cold and damp Moel Rhiwen hillside following a month of unusually dry weather. My maternal grandmother and grandfather set up home in this former gamekeeper's cottage in the first decade of the 20thC, with my grand father working in the Dinorwig Quarries. With the outbreak of WWI large numbers of quarrymen were redirected to war work, many to the coal mines, and the family moved to Ashton in Makerfield. |
