[edit]DescriptionFlying Pigeon LA's custom Batavus Old Dutch 5-speed - 4429909874.jpg |
English: There was a fiddly bit of alignment of the light and the basket mount we had fabricated for this bike. You can see a little bit of overlap between the light on the fork and the basket's stay if you look closely. Ah, the benefit of photographs and hindsight. Fortunately, the stay doesn't impede the Spanniga head light's ability to show the way.
This bike normally comes as a 1-speed from the Batavus factory in Heerenveen, Holland. At a customer's request, we disassembled the rear wheel and installed a SRAM Spectro P5 5-speed coaster hub on it. We also mounted a basket (using a locally made basket mount by our friend Stephen Campos of Steel Fabricated Arts) and installed a headlight down on the front fork. The rear wheel and the extra labor added almost $200 to the cost of the bike, but it also added four more gears than the bike had when it was stock! The retail value of the bike is $950. |
