| Description |
flowery bedstraw, Galium multiflorum, male plants, Nevada, White Mountains, Sugarloaf, Pinchot Creek - Columbus Salt Marsh watershed, elevation 2701 m (8860 ft). In its narrow sense, this species is still common at middle elevations in rocky sagebrush habitats of the Great Basin and northern Mojave Desert of the western United States. A number of other species now considered distinct were once lumped under a much broader concept of this name, extending its range farther east and north. As narrowly defined, Galium multiflorum is distinguished by having separate male and female plants (dioecious), along with a subshrubby habit, spreading hairs, long-hairy fruits, and abruptly short-pointed rounded leaves in unequal pairs at each node and that arch downward in age. |
