English: Flounce (Belgium), late 17th century
Description
English: Brussels-style flounce with a central design of an eagle surmounted by a radiant sun, flanked by entwined initials and paired medallions containing the portraits of a man and woman. Above are crowns under canopies. Below are hearts pierced by arrows and chained together, lover's knots and initials. Probably made in 1695 for the marriage of Maximilian Emmanuel of Bavaria and Therese Cunegonde, daughter of John Sobieksi, the king of Poland.
