In the 1930s the district of Florya was designated as one a main recreation and tourism zone of İstanbul. Some of its core facilities were designed in the 1950s with this potential in mind. The urban schematic was prepared by Sedad Hakkı Eldem who also worked on its buildings along with Orhan Çakmakçıoğlu. The project, which took over the awhole Florya coastline, was approved in 1956. However, in the end, only two motels, one camping area and several beach cabins were realized. The buildings were given similar morphological characteristics to American motel architecture, but the use of less expensive materials and building systems in Florya, gave them a more vernacular-modernist form and hence a unique character.
