The Saints. still existing and including in its roster princeas well as peasant—and the custody of the urnused in the election of the magistrates; while aDominican as well as a Franciscan was accordeda seat on the Ringhieri during public affairs ofstate. The Ringhieri was a rostrum in front ofthe Palazzo-Vecchio. It was removed in thenineteenth century, but a small platform marksthe place where it stood. (The word is derivedfrom Arringari, to harangue.) Both Orders were most potent in their effortsor zeal, and another order of religion soonsprang up in Florence, the Servites, or Servantsof Mary. It was founded by seven young menof the town in 1233 and the early Church of theOrder, the Church of the Most Holy Annuncia-tion, is rich in artistic decoration. It was built as a thank-offering by the parentsof St. Juliana, for her who was sent to them intheir old age.
