re in-teresting from an historical point of view, since that on theright depicts the interior of San Marco in 1588 with the bodyof the Saint lying in state and with portraits of Averardo andAntonio Salviati, the founders of this chapel, kneeling amongstthe crowd. On the left is shown the funeral procession of theSaint with the Grand-Duke Ferdinand I and the Duke ofMantua attending it in state. Beneath the altar is the bronzeshrine of the Saint, a fine work by Gian-Bologna. The Monastery, now Museum, of San Marco (entrance, 1fr.) was conveyed to the Dominican Order under Pope MartinV, who suppressed the Order of the Salvestrini early in thefifteenth century. The chief patrons of the newly establishedconvent were the two brothers, Cosimo dei Medici, founder ofthe senior branch of the House of Medici, whose legitimateline expired with Leo X in 1521, and Lorenzo dei Medici,ancestor of the junior or Grand-Ducal branch of that family.The historic palle or balls, the armorial bearings of the
