Floods of March 1963 in Ohio and the Flash Flood of June 1963 in the Vicinity of Cambridge |
|||||||||||||||||
Description |
The flood of March 1963 was the worst flood since 1945 in the Hocking River basin, and may have exceeded the outstanding flood of 1913 on Rush Creek; it exceeded all records in the Paint Creek area in the Scioto River basin (but records are relatively short and do not include the outstanding floods such as that of 1913); and it equalled or exceeded the 1959 flood in parts of the Little Miami River basin. Two lives were lost, and the total estimated damage in Ohio exceeded $28 million, as reported by the Corps of Engineers and the U. S. Weather bureau. Over 3,000 dwellings were damaged, and over 5, 000 people were evacuated. The city of Athens was partly flooded. |
