Batticaloa (Tamil: மட்டக்களப்பு, Sinhala: මඩකලපුව) is a city in the Eastern province of Sri Lanka. It is the seat of the Eastern University of Sri Lanka. It is on the east coast, 69 miles (111 km) south by south east of Trincomalee, and is situated on an island. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batticaloa" rel="nofollow">en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batticaloa</a> WHAT HAPPENED Batticaloa that receives 1,600 mm of rain every year has received an unprecedented 1,400 mm of rain in December 2010 and from January to February (3rd) 2011 another 1,600 mm of rainfall. According to them, more than 40,000 cattle have died due the unusual floods and they warned that the dairy industry in the east would severely be affected due to this.
