| Description | This Nature Conservancy owned farm lies South and East of County Highway 12 and is located in Section 7, 12 and 13 of Versailles Township in Brown County, IL. It has 972 acres enrolled in the Wetland Reserve Program (WRP). This is year 14 of a 30-year WRP easement purchased by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and contains prairie plantings and tree planting, intended to help protect and restore the acreage to its natural state. Prior to enrollment in the WRP, this acreage was annually cropped from the edge of County Highway 12 down to the Illinois River bank. This is under water due to a break in the Camp Creek levee and the high waters of the Illinois River, which crested at this site on Apr. 27, 2013. USDA photo Randy Tankersley. |
