John Trumbull Oil on canvas, 12' x 18' 1820; placed 1826 Rotunda U.S. Capitol The subject of this painting is the surrender of the British army at Yorktown, Virginia, in 1781, which ended the last major campaign of the Revolutionary War. This official Architect of the Capitol photograph is being made available for educational, scholarly, news or personal purposes (not advertising or any other commercial use).
