U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Michael Cruz, of Cortland, N.Y., stands along the bank of the Pech River during a patrol through the streets of Asadabad city in Kunar province, Afghanistan, Aug. 19. Cruz is deployed with the 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, which is currently serving as part of Task Force Mountain Warrior
