CHANGI NAVAL BASE, Singapore (June 25, 2012) Seaman Jerod-Michael Hinkle, front, and Culinary Specialist Seaman Chen Sun, both assigned to the guided-missile frigate USS Vandegrift (FFG 48), heave on a mooring line as their ship leaves the pier. Vandegrift is underway in preparation for Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) 2012 Philippines. CARAT is a series of bilateral military exercises between the U.S. Navy and the armed forces of Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.
