DescriptionFlickr - Israel Defense Forces - The Evacuation of Neve Dekalim Hotel.jpg |
June 30, 2005. Pictured: A poster put up by extremist residents which reads "Commander! I can't!" in regards to the disengagement operation. Security forces broke into the Neve Dekalim Hotel and cleared out 150 right wing extremists that had barricaded themselves inside. The police were forced to break in with metal ladders and, using megaphones, demanded that the residents evacuate. The head of the Southern Command, Maj. Gen. Dan Harel, said after the operation: "The peoples' actions here were unacceptable. Some will be removed from the area and other will be arrested. I hope that the quiet that was once typical of the region will return. The people of this region have a legitimate right to protest but the decision to close the Strip stands." |
